SKREPPERS HISTORY PART ONE 1988-1994

Balls, Sluts and Hard-ons

The original idea of the Skreppers came about in 1988, when the guys in the line-up of that time were fed up with the whereabouts of their so-called serious band activities. In the first rehearsal of the band (named Rock Diktator and His Monarks) saw the members swapping their instruments to ones they weren’t able to master that well (or at all). The drummer Hiili/Special K. took to vocals, the guitarist Disney played the drums and Thorax played bass, which he hadn’t previously touched. The other members at that time where Sam Francisco and Tracy Sumatra.
Later the band’s name was changed to Skreppers. Disney came up with the name, which means nothing in Finnish but is close to the Swedish word for “balls”. Later it was learned that the word means “slut” in Norwegian and “hard-on” in Dutch slang. By sheer coincidence, the name happens to mean all things valued by the band.

La Putas

In the beginning, the band’s musical direction was grounded on glam rock and rockabilly. Bad musicianship meant a slow tempo and strange rhythmical breaks. The names of the songs describe the territory the band was covering on the outskirts of mainstream rock: Suvio la Puta, Mr.Gay, Night Dragons, Splish, Splash, Every night?, Let me in You, Nipu Napu, Slimy Cunt, Just another Jesus. Gigs were a rare treat in the Northern metropolitan area of Kerava, known primarily for a juvenile prison and violent murderers. In the seventies, the city inhabited by 30 000 people was the week-end meeting place for a teddy-boy army of 2 000.
In 1993, the band recorded a never-released album La Putas and filmed a documentary “Powder, Cake and Motorcycle” showing the band in studio, on stage and on free time.
